New Perspectives Theatre presents: A Man Without a Past

Written by Aki Kaurismäki, adapted for the stage and directed by Jack McNamara

One minute you know who you are. The next minute your mind's a blank slate...

The lives of an eclectic community living in abandoned shipping containers are thrown upside down when a mysterious man arrives. With no memory of his name or former life, they begin to help him to find his feet. Whilst a daily serving of soup from a local charity worker begins to nourish his heart and soul, the surprise rediscovery of his past puts his new life in jeopardy.

Featuring a soundtrack from songs of praise to sultry jazz, this part-melancholic love story, part-deliciously deadpan comedy takes you on one man's extraordinary journey from anonymity to unexpected salvation.

Following on from the success of Lars Von Trier's The Boss of it All ('Terrific!' -The Guardian), Jack McNamara cleverly adapts this Cannes Grand Prix award-winning film comedy by one of Finland's greatest modern storytellers.

'A delicious blend of hilarity and heart break' -Rolling Stone on Kaurismäki’s film

Luton Library Theatre

Luton Library Theatre opened in 1962 as a lecture theatre before gradually changing to a traditional entertainment venue with 256 seats and two side aisles.

The Theatre began to build up a programme of amateur and professional drama, film, music of all types and children's events. In fact a pretty long list of events that covers almost every taste!

All of this continued through the sixties, seventies and eighties. During the nineties the seating was changed to a more modern style and colour with a centre isle with a slight rake. This meant the amount of seating had to be reduced to the current capacity of 238.

In the late nineties and early noughties, there were more changes both fabric and technical makeup of the Theatre. This brings us up to 2009, when the Library itself closed for a major refurbishment. Some improvements were made to the front of house and bar areas of the theatre, plus the introduction of a new cafe.
